Affiliation:
Football teams compete in the
Chesterfield Quarterback League (CQL). There are cheerleading
squads associated with each of the four teams, Flag, Minors, Juniors and
Seniors, that are governed by Chesterfield Cheerleading League (CCL). WAA
conducts registration, selects coaches, forms teams/squads and sells
cheerleading uniforms at cost. Game schedules and rules are provided by the
CQL. Eligibility: Children who live within the Woolridge Elementary School attendance boundaries and are 6 years old by December 31. Registration Fee: The first child in each family is $30.00; each additional child is $20.00. This money covers administrative expenses and clinics for coaches. Uniform Fees: Uniforms consist of a skirt, vest, monogrammed mock turtleneck, lollies and socks which are sold at cost. Jackets are optional and may be purchased thru WAA. Squad Selection: Squads are set up according to age. Coaches: Coaches are selected by the Cheerleading Administrator. Season: Pre-season practice begins in early August. The season extends through the end of October. Games: Games begin the weekend after Labor Day. Most games are played on Saturday morning. Occasionally, Saturday evening games are played against opponents with lighted fields, e.g. Clover Hill, Crenshaw, etc. In addition, one Wednesday night game is typically played. On Saturday mornings, Flag begin at 9:00 AM followed by Minors at 10:00 AM, Juniors at 11:00 AM and Seniors at 12:00 noon. However, the actual starting times depend on the ending time of the previous game.
For Saturday evening games, Flag plays at 5:00 PM followed by Minors, Juniors and Seniors in order. Please note: the Woolridge Athletic Association does not set up the game schedules. Practice: Each squad is allotted weekly practice time at Woolridge Elementary School between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and dusk. Post Season Play: Both conference winners and the six (6) teams with the next best records enter the playoffs in each division, Northern and Southern. The playoffs are single elimination and culminate with the “Superbowl” on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. There is no post season play in the Flag league. Cheerleading squads normally continue cheering as long as their associated team continues in the playoffs. Other Events: The Cheerleading squad will likely be invited to participate in other activities. In past years they were invited to perform an exhibition at the Woolridge PTA spring carnival and march in the Woodlake 4th of July parade. In addition, there is a CCL-sponsored camp available in the late July/early August time frame for a nominal fee. Information regarding these events will be distributed by the coaches at a later date. Pictures: Team and individual pictures are taken the Friday evening prior to the first game and may be purchased for an additional charge. Recognition: A banquet is held following the season to award trophies and recognize the cheerleaders. A pizza party follows for the participants and their families. Other Sports: The WAA also sponsors softball, baseball, football and basketball.
