Basketball Cheerleading Info
|
Boys' basketball teams sponsored by WAA compete in the Chesterfield Basketball League (CBL). Girls' basketball teams compete in the Chesterfield Girls Basketball League (CGBL). Each cheerleading squad is assigned to one or more basketball teams and is affiliated with the Chesterfield Cheerleading League (CCL). WAA conducts registration, selects coaches, forms teams/squads and sells cheerleading uniforms at cost. Game schedules and rules are provided by the league. Eligibility: Children who live within the Woolridge Elementary School attendance boundaries and are 6 years old by December 31 (Kindergarten or higher). Registration Fee: The first child in each family is $40.00; each additional child is $30.00. This money covers administrative expenses, clinics for coaches and basketball league fees which include the charge for renting the school facilities. Uniform Fees: Uniforms consist of a jumper, monogrammed mock turtleneck, lollies and socks which are sold at cost. Jackets are optional and may be purchased thru WAA. Squad Selection: Squads are selected shortly after registration. Age, experience and personal requests are considered when forming squads. Coaches: Coaches are selected by the Cheerleading Administrator. Season: Pre-season practice begins around the middle of November and the final game is around the middle of March. Games: Most games are played on Saturdays and a few Sundays beginning the first Saturday after New Years and extend until the beginning of March. Game schedules are distributed by the league during the week prior to the first game. Please note: the Woolridge Athletic Association does not set up the game schedules. Each squad will be assigned to one or two basketball teams. The actual number of games the squad will cheer at will be determined by the coaches with input from the parents. WAA cannot guarantee that cheerleaders will be assigned to their sibling’s basketball teams. Practice: Each squad is allotted weekly practice time at Woolridge Elementary School subject to availability between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.. Post Season Play: All basketball teams participate in a single-elimination post season tournament. Cheerleading squads normally continue cheering as long as their assigned team "stays alive" in the tournament. Other Events: The Cheerleading squad will likely be invited to participate in other activities. In past years they were invited to perform an exhibition at the Woolridge PTA spring carnival and march in the Woodlake 4th of July parade. In addition, there is a CCL-sponsored camp available in the late July/early August time frame for a nominal fee. Information regarding these events will be distributed by the coaches at a later date. Pictures: Squad and individual pictures are taken by a professional photographer around the middle of the season. These pictures may be purchased separately. Recognition: Each squad typically holds a party following the season to recognize the cheerleaders and award trophies. This event is normally planned by the team parent and/or coaches. The cost of the event, including the trophies, is the team’s responsibility. Other Sports: The WAA also sponsors softball, baseball, football and basketball.
